Giancarlo Ortiz, professionally known as “Maestro G,” is an Atlanta-based cellist and multi-genre artist originally from Miami, Florida. Known for his soulful and electrifying style, he seamlessly blends a wide range of genres—including R&B, hip-hop, classical, jazz, and Latin—to create a sound that is uniquely his own. His versatility has led him to perform in settings ranging from orchestras and chamber ensembles to studio sessions, commercial projects, films, and live television across the Eastern United States.
A passionate collaborator, Maestro G has performed with standout artists including Jai’len Josey, the Mad Violinist, and has recorded at Tree Sound Studios with talents like Noah Johnson and Tevin “Penny” McGuire. As a commercial and media performer, he has appeared on Univision and Despierta América, working with Latin artists such as Pitizion, Starlyn Benitez, and Darwin Musicos. He has also contributed to multimedia projects with the Miami Animation and Gaming International Complex (MAGIC), premiering contemporary classical works for films and video games composed by Joseph Guerrera.

As the former principal cellist of the Javacya Chamber Orchestra, Giancarlo collaborated with world-class musicians including the Mad Violinist, Darryl Tookes, Glacia Robinson, Derek Menchan, and Mary Bush Smith. A career milestone came in 2019 when he was part of the team that won an Emmy Award for Best Special Event for the televised Jackie Gleason Revival program.

Giancarlo has performed with numerous orchestras across the Southeast, including the Huntsville, Valdosta, Rome, Chattanooga, Tallahassee, and Panama City Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Atlanta Pops and Sinfonia Gulf Coast. His chamber music credits include performances with the contemporary ensemble Polymorphia at the FSU New Music Festival, and international performances and community work with the Peruvian group Kuyayky, including concerts and workshops in Miami and Jauja, Peru. A particularly memorable highlight was performing in a masterclass for the prestigious Tokyo String Quartet.

In addition to his performance career, Giancarlo is a dedicated educator and mentor. He currently teaches with respected programs in Atlanta, including the Atlanta Music Project, Westminster Schools, and Music By Tritone, while also maintaining a thriving private studio. Many of his students have gone on to earn spots in top youth ensembles such as the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO), All-State Orchestras, and various regional honor ensembles. As a former graduate assistant at Florida State University, he supported undergraduate and graduate-level cellists through lessons and ensemble coaching. His previous roles include teaching with the Miami Music Project and serving on the faculty of the Javacya Arts Conservatory, where he worked with the FAMU Developmental Research School to expand musical access for young Black and Latino musicians.

Born in 1998 to a non-musical family, Giancarlo began cello studies at age 11 at the Miami Conservatory of Music with Alain Orbiz. He was soon recognized as a rising talent, becoming a finalist and prizewinner in the 2015 Young Talent Big Dreams Competition with Kuyayky. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the New World School of the Arts, studying with Aaron Merritt and Dr. Bryan Hayslett, and completed his Master of Music at Florida State University under the mentorship of Gregory Sauer. Additional influential teachers include Dr. Theodore Buchholz, Dr. Diana Golden, Natalie Helm, Neal Cary, and Julian Schwarz.

Giancarlo continues to bridge performance, education, and digital engagement. As Maestro G, he connects with global audiences through regular music content and live streaming on YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, and TikTok, blending classical technique with modern creativity. Whether on stage, in the classroom, or online, he remains committed to using music as a tool for inspiration, connection, and transformation.
